John Simon Mseke, popularly known as Joh Makini, is a Tanzanian hip-hop recording artist and composer. Born on March 27, 1980, in Arusha, he is one of the most celebrated rappers in Tanzania. He is a member of the well-known Tanzanian hip-hop group Weusi, and he is also the founder and CEO of his own record label, Makini Music.

He began his music career in 2004 and gained significant attention after releasing the hit song “Chochote Popote” in 2006. He is known for his skillful use of metaphors, wordplay, and freestyle abilities. He has also collaborated with a number of international artists, including the late AKA from South Africa, Davido from Nigeria, and Chidinma from Nigeria. His collaboration with AKA on the song “Don’t Bother” earned him a nomination at The African Entertainment Awards USA. He has released a number of albums and EPs, with a recent single titled “Mr Nice Guy” released in 2025.
